DEVOTION ~ UNDERSTANDING THE TIMES

Theme: Understanding the Times
Text: Esther 1:13-15

13 Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times (for this was the king’s manner toward all who knew law and justice, 14 those closest to him being Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who had access to the king’s presence, and who ranked highest in the kingdom): 15 “What shall we do to Queen Vashti, according to law, because she did not obey the command of King Ahasuerus brought to her by the eunuchs?”

Having learnt from the king and his queen yesterday, and how the command of the king through the eunuchs was declined, we will look at the reaction of the king. It is important to know and understand the times and seasons in life so as to know when to act appropriately.

The seven princes of Persia and Media did not wait for anyone to tell them about the kings countenance when queen Vashti's disobedience was made known. As dear beloved children of God, you need to know God's response and reactions to sin. If you submit to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, sin will not have its place around you.

Sanctions and punishment must be carried out reasonably so as to serve as deterrent to prevent others from also doing the wrong. King Ahasuerus did not pronounce the punishment outwrite but seek the concerns of his council. There comes a day when the Righteous Judge shall judge the world. Yours is to prepare by serving God faithfully for no one knows the time of the Lord’s Day.

Prayer: My Righteous Judge, I thank You for the mercies You have shown us all through Your sacrifice. Help us to be mindful of our judgment over others and may we understand and know that the times are evil yet we must not be driven into doing evil. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN!
