DEVOTION ~ CALL UPON THE LORD

Theme: Call Upon the Lord
Text: Psalm 18:1-3

18 I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

The established relationship between us and God is built on love. God loves us unconditionally and He demonstrated it through Jesus Christ (John 3:16). It is required of us to reciprocate this love but we have not been able to do so. To love the Lord is to obey His commands (John 14:15). The psalmist have experienced the power of God and so expressed he will love the Lord, his strength.

The psalmist addresses the Lord as his rock, fortress, deliverer, God, strength, shield, the horn of his salvation and stronghold. Every description given is a nature of God in Christ Jesus. Jesus is the solid rock on which the foundation of our faith is built. He gives divine protection to His own, encouraging believers in His Word to strengthen us in our weaknesses and by it we build our faith. We must take up the shield of faith at all times so as to be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one. In Him is the total work of salvation, we cannot be saved without Jesus for He is the horn of our salvation.

The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. We need to call unto the Lord at all times in prayer. His honour and adoration must go up before Him ceaselessly. There's no other power or god to save us except the Lord. Whatever is our challenge or difficulty in life, we need to look to the Lord for He will surely deliver us from them all.

Prayer: The Redeemer of my life, take glory and honour. You deserve all the glory, praise and adoration for You alone O God, is the source of my strength. Come to my rescue in these challenges; family, health, ministry, career, (list your challenges in life). Thank You for sending me help. In Jesus name have I prayed. AMEN!
