DEVOTION ~ THE GOLGOTHA EXPERIENCE

Theme: The Golgatha Experience
Text: Psalm 18:7-15

7 Then the earth shook and trembled;
The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, because He was angry.
8 Smoke went up from His nostrils, and devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it. 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down with darkness under His feet. 10 And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; He flew upon the wings of the wind. 11 He made darkness His secret place; His canopy around Him was dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. 12 From the brightness before Him, His thick clouds passed with hailstones and coals of fire. 13 The Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice, hailstones and coals of fire. 14 He sent out His arrows and scattered the foe, Lightnings in abundance, and He vanquished them. 15 Then the channels of the sea were seen, the foundations of the world were uncovered at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

In yesterday's devotion, we learnt about how sin can position us in a discomforting mood but by the mercies of God's grace in Christ Jesus, we are liberated from such situations. Today, we will look at the power of God revealed to save humanity. Though in the dispensation of the psalmist the death of Christ has not yet happened, this verses of the psalmist gave a reflection of what happened at Golgotha.

Christ the source of Light and life, suffered cruelly in the hands of wicked men from the time He was arrested to His crucifixion at Golgotha. At the Place of Skull where His adversaries made mockery of Him, a time came when His mockers redirected their thought to align with what was happening; So when the Centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God (Matthew 27:54)!"

The Lord made darkness His secret place; His canopy around Him was dark waters and thick clouds passed with hailstones and coal of fire. This is done so you and I can be saved from the weight of sin. The Lord spoke forgiveness by sending His arrows to scatter the foes, lightening in abundance, and He vanquished them (vrs 13&14) in line with the account of the Gospel of Mark 15:31-39 and Luke 23:34. The psalmist stated, the channels of the sea were seen, the foundations of the world were uncovered at the Lord's rebuke and the blast of breath from His nostrils. Indeed, access to the Throne has been revealed from that day forward when the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom.

Prayer: Saviour of the world, you came down to us in darkness that You might save us. Thank You for coming to redeem the world. Teach our hearts to love You and accept Your will. Grant us the strength to remain faithful in serving You. This I pray in Jesus name. AMEN!
