DEVOTION ~ PERFECTING HOLINESS
Theme: Perfecting Holiness
Text: 2 Corinthians 7:1
7 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
God has called us into his marvelous glory but we cannot abide with Him in sin. We need to do away with sin and pursue the the wiil of the Lord. Jesus has promised to return one day, a day which is hidden from us. We ought therefore to be alert and prepared for His second coming.
To prepare for the Lord is to cleanse ourselves from filthiness of the flesh and spirit. The filthinessof of the flesh is evident for every one to see. These include; drunkness, fornication, adultery, idolatry, murder, gossiping, stealing and all the carnal works stated in Galatians 5:19-21. Once we practice these fleshly filthiness, it blindfolds us spiritually by making us weaker and exposing us to practicing evil. Falling on horoscope, astrologers and evil mediums to foretell the future, current happings and the past strips us of our spiritual garment.
Resist these evil practices and put on the new garment in Christ Jesus. This garment of purity and holiness makes us walk in the way of the Lord. Let us begin the year by seeking to please the Father in all we do (perfecting holiness in the fear of God).
Prayer: Awaken my soul, come awake
To hunger, to seek, to thirst
Awaken first love, come awake
And do as You did, at first
Spirit of the living God come fall afresh on me
Come wake me from my sleep
Blow through the caverns of my soul
Pour in me to overflow
To overflow
Awaken my soul, come awake
To worship with all your strength
Spirit of the living God come fall afresh on me
Come wake me from my sleep
Blow through the caverns of my soul
Pour in me to overflow
Come and fill this place
Let Your glory now invade
Spirit come and fill this place (Come and fill this, come and fill this)
Let Your glory now invade
Spirit of the living God come fall afresh on me
Come wake me from my sleep
Blow through the caverns of my soul
Pour in me to overflow
To overflow. AMEN!
