DEVOTION ~ REDEMPTION IS COSTLY
Theme: Redemption is Costly
Text: Psalm 49:6-9
6 Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches, 7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him— 8 For the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever— 9 That he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit.
Having wealth is not a sin, however putting your trust in your wealth above God is sinful. Taking pride in your possessions in every circumstance that comes your way and paying your way through cannot happen on the Day of the Lord. When your life is either required of you by death or God returns to judge the world, no amount of money can be paid to God to redeem your life.
God cannot be bribed in any way. He is pure and just in all things. The parable about the rich man and Lazarus presents a clear picture of what becomes of a man who fails to heed to the commands of the Lord because of his many riches (Luke 16:19-31). The fathers of old depended on the blood of animals to atone for their sin but that even couldn't redeem them for a lifetime. It is for this reason Christ came to die for you and I (John 15:13).
Laying down His life to pay for the sins of mankind when He Himself was not guilty is very costly. If you don’t have Jesus as your personal Saviour, be sure to loose your soul in hell. However, as many as beloved in Jesus, God has given right to, to be called children of God. Such individuals will live forever with Christ in His Kingdom (John 3:16; Romans 10:13-17.
Prayer: My Great Redeemer, thank You for the finished work on the cross and for the power of resurrection which is our hope of having eternal life in You. I pray I shall attain salvation by Your grace. Increase my faith and help me to walk it daily and in all that I do even now and forevermore in Jesus' name. AMEN!
