DEVOTION ~ SATISFIED WITH GOODNESS
Theme: Satisfied with Goodness
Text: Ecclesiastes 6:3-6
3 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he— 4 for it comes in vanity and departs in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness. 5 Though it has not seen the sun or known anything, this has more rest than that man, 6 even if he lives a thousand years twice—but has not seen goodness. Do not all go to one place?
Satisfaction is what everyone seeks for in life. No one desires unsatisfaction in any area of his or her life. True satisfaction comes from God who blesses and establishes His own so they can be satisfied with goodness. The psalmist said bless the Lord O my soul; who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's (Psalm 103:5). If you are not having a walk with the Lord, your life will be full of misery.
The presence of possessions is not a guarantee of satisfaction in life. In the text for consideration, what many believed to be what accomplishes mankind (long life and children) can be obtained but without the blessings of God upon it, it will only bring you agony. Some have regretted having children because of the way their children turn out to be. Others who have lived long but have no good conduct or relationship with God, see old age as punishment for their evil lives lived. Dear beloved in the Lord, your satisfaction with goodness cannot be found carnally but spiritually. You need to establish a good relationship with God.
What will it profit you to gain the whole world and forfeit your soul the salvation of the Lord? As the preacher of old said, a stillborn is far better of than you whose soul never found goodness in the Lord. There's life after this life, don't live today as though you won't account for your life. Surrender to God and commune with Him daily so that goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life.
Prayer: Lord, I've wandered in my own ways and seen the vanities of life. I come before Your presence this day laying it all (my health, marriage, children, career, family, ministry, finances, education, etc..) at Your feet. I pray Your goodness to locate every area of my life even now and forevermore in Jesus' name. AMEN!
