THE BODY OF THE LORD
Theme : The Body of the Lord
Text: 1 Corinthians 6:12-14
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
Having received Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour, we are one with the Lord. Our bodies are no longer ours but the Lord’s. We ought to therefore use it to His glory. We are lawful to all things but not all things are helpful. There's grace and liberty in Christ but wisdom must be applied in enjoying these. There are some things that are not helpful to the development of spiritual well-being, such things must not be entertained amongst believers.
As the Apostle Paul puts it, "all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any," we must not allow ourselves to be subject under anything except God. The abundance of food or provision should not make us neglect to fast and pray. Once we are able to fast and pray even when food is in abundance, then we are not under the power of food. We must not to live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from God's mouth (Luke 4:4).
Another gratification of man after food is sexual satisfaction. Dear beloved in the Lord, the fact that you have edges or desire to have sexual relation, you must not subject yourself to sexual immorality. Take note, the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. We are for the Lord for His Spirit dwells in us. And by this Spirit we will be raise up just as Christ has been resurrected. An immoral body has no dwelling with the Father. Therefore, let us bring ourselves under the power of God than any pleasure that does not glorify God.
Prayer: Thank You Lord, for the liberty given us in all areas of our lives. In this liberty, grant us divine wisdom and understanding of how well we must take hold of it. Holy Spirit divine, teach and direct us in the path of righteousness in all we do that our bodies will be the Lord's even now and forevermore in Jesus' name. AMEN!
Amen
