DEVOTION ~ YOUR HEART, THE WAY
Theme: Your heart, the Way
Text: Isaiah 40:3-8
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth; 5 The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” 6 The voice said, “Cry out!” And he said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. 7 The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
All that it takes a man to draw near the Lord on his body is his devoted heart that drives the mind to the things of the Lord. A voice is heard in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God. The Way is Jesus and He has passed through the earth already, if there's any place for us to prepare for Him, is our hearts. He stands at the door of our heart knocking, if we open it to Him, He will come in and dine with us (Revelations 3:20)
Our desert hearts (unfriutful heart filled with bitterness, pain, unforgiveness, sorrows, revenge, amongst others) needs to be cleared. The valleys of our heart include the depression, sorrow, pain, regrets, and all the things that brings us down spiritually or creates doubts about the potency of God’s Word concerning our lives. The Word of God must exalt you above these valleys of life; speak to the depression, regrets, pain that God's healing has taken you from that state of mind and you're far above that shallow level of life. As you're exalting the Word of God above your valleys, you ought to also bring down the mountain and hill of disobedience, pride, arrogance, and all forms of sin.The crooked places in your life where hypocrisy plays an instrumental role must be made straight as the Lord has nothing to do with the lukewarm Christian. The rough places symbolizes the cynical choices of life. Christ has taught us to love as He has loved us and so, we must also make smooth all our life's decisions to please the Lord. (Revelations 3:15&16; John 13:34-36)
Dear beloved in the Lord, all flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. We have but limited time here on earth even if we live over hundred years it's like a day before God. We ought therefore to be mindful how we live our lives. God can demand of His breath from us at any given time. So allow the Word of God to richly endowed you. Remember, the grass withers, the flower fades, (a symbolism of the end of life for man- death) but the word of our God stands forever. (Hebrews 9:27; 2 Peter 3:8-18)
Prayer: Have Your way in my heart O God. I pray the Holy Spirit lifts me above every valley, level the mountains of sin, make straight the crooked ways and make smooth the rough areas of my life. I receive grace to walk in the Word all the days of my life in Jesus' name have I asked. AMEN!
