DEVOTION ~ THE PASSING WORLD

Theme: The Passing World
Text: 1 John 2:15-17

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

To everything there's season and time; just as the lives of men and other living creatures come to an end, so this world will also pass away. There will be nothing anyone can boast in as his/her possession. Therefore, we ought to set our priorities right in what we take delight in. In choosing between the love of the world and God, whatever option we choose will result in the rejection of the other.

Anyone who loves the world, takes delight in the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These lustful desires are never satisfied no matter how it pushes one to the wall. They are also not of God but of the world. The world and its lusts, will pass away for the New Jerusalem to manifest. It is only those with the love of God that will survive and enter into it.

If you desire to be with the Lord and enjoy all His benefits, then you must hate the world with its lust. You cannot serve two masters faithfully; you either love one and hate the other. Doing the will of God sustains the soul to have eternal life. To abide forever you need to do the Lord's will, as Christ the Word of God did and received the crown of eternal glory.

Prayer: Dear God, I humbly come before Your presence asking for Your forgiveness in choosing to please the world above You. I confess to You this day my weaknesses and carnal nature, help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to submit to You and reject the world with its lusts. Give me the enablement to do Your will even now and forevermore. This I pray in the name of Christ Jesus my Saviour. AMEN!
