DEVOTION ~ THE SERVANT'S ATTITUDE 1
Theme: The Servant's Attitude 1
Text: 1 Peter 2:18-20
18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh. 19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.
In yesterday's devotion, we looked at submitting to governing bodies. Today's devotion will be on the servant's submission to his master. We are servants in the Vineyard of God to proclaim His glory. In as much as we serve God, we also have earthly masters or superiors that we are accountable to. We are being admonished as children of God to submit to these masters irrespective of their attitude or relationship with us.
We must not only respect the good and caring masters but also do same for the mean and harsh ones as well. In all our labour, the fear of God must manifest without fail. We should not take delight in doing wrong and being punished. Rather, we must take delight after we have done the good, we are not even acknowledged but treatedly unjustly. For the seek of God, we should endure such suffering. Dear beloved in the Lord, let us possess the rightful attitude of a servant; to serve diligently in all that we do either for God or man.
Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I desire the spirit of humility to serve diligently and faithfully no matter the prevailing conditions of service. Help me to do Your will and to see every service to man as to You that I may serve perfectly even now and forevermore. AMEN!
