DEVOTION ~ WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH
Theme: Worship in Spirit and Truth
Text: John 4:21-24
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
In yesterday's devotion, we looked at how we could serve sincerely. Our discussion for today will be on worshipping in spirit and truth. To worship as a Christian, is the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for God. It can be done through service or honoring God's name. In time past, the temple in Jerusalem was believed to be solely where one can encounter the Lord in worship. However, Jesus made it known to the Samaritan woman that, the hour is coming when she will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Dear beloved in the Lord, the most effectual way to worship is having a good relationship with God. Just like you can't disclose your secrets to strangers, so will you not have an effective fellowship with God if you fail to establish a relationship. In this dispensation, grace is speaking for us and so, the Holy Spirit of God indwells us. Our worship therefore ought to be devoid of gymnastics or show-offs. The purpose of worship should be to have a spiritual encounter rather than having fun or entertainment.
If your expectations of worship is to satisfy yourself, then it is not spirit base or of truth. The study of the Word of God equips you to find the right words and deeds to worship the Lord. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. The salvation of God is not limited in any way. Do not count yourself out, draw closer to him in spirit and truth.
Prayer: Holy Spirit of God that lives in my body, shake off all that ought to leave this body of mine. Let only Your presence have dominion in me. May my soul, body and spirit conform to God alone in all that I do even now and forevermore in Jesus' name have I asked. AMEN!
