DEVOTION ~ DISCIPLE OF CHRIST

Theme: Disciple of Christ
Text: Luke 14:25-27

25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

A disciple is a follower, such individual takes instruction from his/her master and act accordingly. After the period of learning, it's expected the disciple emulates the master in all ways. When we draw closer to Christ, we become His disciples but that comes with a cost.

Jesus' word to the multitude that followed Him is purposed to guide us on the outcome of our decision to also follow Him. Once we come to Christ, we become new creation and we outgrow the former life taking up new lifestyles. This often gets opposion from loved ones we've ever acquainted with in those evil ways. The new nature we've taken on, to meditate on the Word of God and to do His will, will cost us the relationships we have with our parents, siblings and friends who are still in darkness. We therefore need to also seek their salvation that we may have peace with them.

In so doing, self-denial sets in. We no longer live for ourselves but God. We carry our cross ready to face every form of persecution just as our Lord took His cross not uttering a word against His adversaries. How well are you living as a disciple of Christ? Have the troubles of this age alter your discipleship? Dear beloved in the Lord, if we can endure the pain, we will be crown in glory as our Lord and Master Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Dear God, I take up my cross this day to follow You. Grant me a persevering spirit to sail through the storms of life. I declare I am a victor in Christ Jesus. AMEN!
