DEVOTION ~ HUMBLED OR EXALTED?
Theme: Humbled or Exalted?
Text: Luke 14:7-11
7 So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them: 8 “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Choices in life either determine whether we are of a lowly spirit or arrogant. The humble seeks to serve whereas the arrogant hastens to be served. This parable of taking seats when invited to a feast has a lot to offer us in our decision making process; to decide whether to live humbly or not.
The seats at the feast are symbolism of the levels of life we attain as we progress in life. Don't hasten to select seats without weighing the options. The seat in your family, career, education, finances, relationships amongst others should not just be taken without careful consideration. Know your place wherever you are. Do not assume to be the best until proven by all. Always take the lowly seat (the seat of a servant or learner) so that the appropriate hands will usher you into greatness than being asked to step down.
Do you desired to be humbled or exalted in life? The choice is yours to make, the option of showing off will not bring the honour. Glory is given to anyone who humbles him/herself. Dear beloved in the Lord, take that lowest seat and you will learn from those at the top. When the time of your lifting comes, you will learn how best to occupy the seat.
Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord, lead me least I astray in making choices in life. Help me to walk the talk of humility that I may be exalted by Your glory. AMEN!
