DEVOTION ~ THE CRAFTY MIND
Theme: The Crafty Mind
Text: 2 Samuel 13:3-5
3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man. 4 And he said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.” 5 So Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’ ”
Today's devotion is a build up on yesterday's, where we studied on ungodly feelings. We will be looking at the crafty mind today considering the advice of Jonadad to Amnon. It is dangerous to confide in the wicked or ungodly for counsel. You will be given a crafty advice that will ruin your life. The crafty always have plans that looks so convincing but leads to destruction when carried out. (Proverbs 14:12)
Dear beloved in the Lord, not everyone that shows concern really care; some are out there to ensure you never end well in life. Be mindful how you easily open up to people. Jonadad knows well it is not right for Amnon to do what he has adviced him to do yet he never mentioned the consequences to him.
Is there someone in your life that's capable of easily convincing you? Is the person's counsel leading you to the Lord or far from Him? That's the sure way to do away with the crafty friends you have. Do not be ready to just accept any counsel without weighing it with the Word of God; whether it conforms or not. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds godly counsel is wise. Flee from the crafty mind and follow the path of godliness. (Proverbs 12:15)
Prayer: Saviour of the world, save me from the ungodly counsel of the crafty. Lead me to walk uprightyly by the power and enablement of the Holy Spirit. I receive wisdom from on high to distinguish between evil and godly counsel. This I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN!
Amen!
