DEVOTION ~ THE EVIL INVITATION
Theme: The Evil Invitation
Text: 2 Samuel 13:23-27
23 And it came to pass, after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which is near Ephraim; so Absalom invited all the king’s sons. 24 Then Absalom came to the king and said, “Kindly note, your servant has sheepshearers; please, let the king and his servants go with your servant.” 25 But the king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you.” Then he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him. 26 Then Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” And the king said to him, “Why should he go with you?” 27 But Absalom urged him; so he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.
In yesterday's devotion we learnt how Absalom comforted his sister Tamar and how he never said any bad or good word to Ammon for the evil he did to his sister. Today's devotion gives an account of what happened after two years. Absalom in silence was plotting evil to repay his brother Ammon for what he did to Tamar. I guess it did not even occur to Ammon his guilt hasn't been forgiven. Their father king David tried to save the situation but couldn't help but fall for the tricks of Absalom.
Dear beloved in the Lord, not every invitation is meant to be honored especially if there are risks attached to it. Let's learn from David not to burden others in life. Some take advantage of the slightest invitation to think of their gratification than the intent of the invitation. King David knew how burdensome it will be if all of them should be housed by Absalom. It was that reason he didn't want the entire family to honour the invitation.
Prayer: Dear God, give me the spirit of discernment to know what to do and not do at all times. Help me to escape every evil plot or conspiracy against my life. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
