DEVOTION ~ TEARS OF SORROW
Theme: Tears of Sorrow
Text: 2 Samuel 13:34-36
34 Then Absalom fled. And the young man who was keeping watch lifted his eyes and looked, and there, many people were coming from the road on the hillside behind him. 35 And Jonadab said to the king, “Look, the king’s sons are coming; as your servant said, so it is.” 36 So it was, as soon as he had finished speaking, that the king’s sons indeed came, and they lifted up their voice and wept. Also the king and all his servants wept very bitterly.
In yesterday's devotion, we learnt how the crafty Jonadab was able to solve the puzzle of what happened in Absalom's house and stating only Amnon was killed. We will be discussing the arrival of the king's sons. Absalom fled after his brother has been killed, as his brothers were running for their lives, he was fleeing when no man was chasing him. Indeed the wicked flee when no one is chasing him.
To the glory of God the remaining sons of the king managed to reached home safely though filled with much fear and sorrow. Jonadab pride himself to announced it has happened just as he has said. He knew it will be so because, he began the journey of giving evil counsel to Amnon. If he had counseled Amnon not to attend the event, it would have saved the situation than bragging about predicting the outcome. Beware dear beloved in the Lord, when someone is very quick at predicting occurances in your life. It will either be for good or evil. Always read between the lines and do the needful.
The actions of the king's sons, the king and his subjects shown every life matters no matter who they are. We need to lament and weep not only for the dead but also for the lost souls roaming the surface of the earth in sinfulness. Be concerned when you see others sinning and pray for the salvation of their souls.
Prayer: Father in heaven, stir in me the desire to seek the best in life for all. Help me to reach out to those still walking in darkness that I may draw them nearer Your throne of grace. This I pray for in Jesus name. AMEN!
Amen!
