DEVOTION ~ BURNT OFFERING
Theme: Burnt Offering
Text: Exodus 18:10-12
10 And Jethro said, “Blessed be the Lord, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, and who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. 11 Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods; for in the very thing in which they behaved proudly, He was above them.” 12 Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and other sacrifices to offer to God. And Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
In yesterday's devotion, we looked at how good it is to rejoice with others using Jethro's relationship with Moses. Today, we are continuing to see what other thing Jethro did to show his joy for his son-in-law. Like we studied yesterday, when we rejoice with others, we are equally honoring the name of the Lord. Jethro lifted up his voice to give thanks to the Almighty God for delivering his son-in-law and all Israel from the wicked hands of Pharoah.
He did not just opened his mouth but followed it with an action. He took a burnt offering and other sacrifices to offered unto God. Burnt offering is an offering made by fire and a sweet aroma to the Lord. Jethro knows how to draw virtue, blessings, grace, favour and divinity from God. He invoke God's presence where they were by his burnt offering and other sacrifices. Aaron and the elders of Israel associated themselves to this blessing knowing God's presence is with Jethro.
Dear beloved in the Lord, let your sacrifices (your deeds and words) come before the Lord as a sweet aroma. Associate with the right people that seek to dwell in God's presence. The presence of God is able to deliver, destroy whatever the wicked take pride in and to put a new song in your mouth. Let your burnt offering (the words of your mouth and the meditations of your heart) be pleasing and acceptable in God's eyes as a sweet aroma.
Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I lay my life as a burnt offering before Your presence. Let it come as an acceptable sacrifice for the advancement of Your Kingdom works. Strength me by the Holy Spirit to live wholly for You in all that I do. AMEN!
