DEVOTION ~ COMMIT NOT THYSELF TO MAN
Theme: Commit Not Thyself to Man
Text: John 2:23-25
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. 24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, 25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.
Aside Christ Jesus clearing the temple, He performed couple of signs or miracles in Jerusalem. These made many to believe Him and started following Him. But Christ did not commit Himself to them because He knows them all. To commit means to pledge or bind oneself with a course or something. One can commit to friendship, a brand, lifestyle, association, followers, leaders, amongst others. Usually much attention is given to what the individual is committed to above any other thing.
Most people often easily get committed with others because they believe those individuals are their close pals, faithful followers or associates. But I've come to tell you, you ought to be careful. No one can tell what's in the heart and mind of his/her fellow human being. Jesus who knows the intent of all humans did not see any of His followers as fit to commit Himself to them. Dear beloved in the Lord, do not commit yourself to anything in the name of seeking people's approval. If you can do it, do it well but not with the aim of pleasing people because, they can take you off your purpose. Commit not thyself to any man but to God solely for He will make straight your path.
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I break away from every destructive spirit in any area of my life. I declare my ways are committed to the Lord and I am pleasing God in all that I do by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit. AMEN!
