DEVOTION ~ DECEIVED

Theme: Deceived
Text: Genesis 3:9-13

9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” 12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” 13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

In yesterday's devotion, we looked at how the eyes of Adam and Eve were opened after eating of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They as well fled the presence of God. In today's devotion, we will be looking at why they hid themselves from God. God called to Adam, asking him where he was. There's nothing hidden from God, He is everywhere and all-knowing. Adam having eaten of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, has become conscious of his evil or sin against God. His response to God's calling was, Your voice have been heard but I'm unworthy to come before Your presence, my honour has been taken and I'm too miserable to draw near Your glorious presence.

God's response to what Adam said, attest that it's only the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil that can make man conscious to recognize his flaws. To play safe and not take full responsibility of his sins, man apportioned blame to God and to the woman. Dear beloved in the Lord, many have often tried to justify their sin than just confess it truthfully in order to seek God's forgiveness and that was what Adam did. He blamed God for considering a help mate for him and believed he wouldn't have sin if he was alone.

Dear beloved in the Lord, others can lead you to sin but stand firm in the faith always to resist them. Take note, if you also fail to fully reveal the truth to your brother or sister, it will return and hunt you. If Adam had taught Eve the command well, she would have been able to overcome the schemes of the serpent. God asked the woman, “What is this you have done?” This is to inform us, we ought not to be stumbling blocks in the path of others. Eve has also become conscious that, the serpent, deceived her. Knowledge gives understanding of what is good, evil, truth or deceit. Before she ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, all the serpent said was pleasant to her. But, acquiring knowledge, she realized, she has been deceived. Make time to study the Word of God, don't give room for false teachers to wrongly mislead you. He who lacks knowledge is easily deceived, beware!

Prayer: I confess my evil ways to You O God this day. Forgive me for going contrary to Your command and lead me by the Holy Spirit to be a faithful and obedient servant to Your glory. This I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN!
