DEVOTION ~ GODLY ZEAL

Theme: Godly Zeal

Text: John 2:13-17

13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. 15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. 16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”

Hallelujah! God has given us zeal to achieve great things in life. However, we ought to be circumspect what we do with this zeal; ungodly zeal leads to death whereas godly zeal gives life and brings about divine transformation. In the dispensation of Jesus Christ, the zeal for God's house consumed Him such that, He drove out all those doing business in the temple for cynical reasons.

Dear beloved in the Lord, your body is the temple of God, a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. What do you use your temple for? Do you give room for merchandise in your temple? Are you trading in wickedness, extortion, deceit, hypocrisy, malice, gossips, amongst others in your body (the temple of the Holy Spirit)? It's time to overturn (recognize your sins and seek repentance), pour out (confess your sins to God) and drive these attitudes out (surrender to God in penitence) in your body. By doing so, your body will be consumed with the zeal of the Holy Spirit. You will command as Jesus did, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” and the devil and every ungodly attitude will flee because you have the Spirit of God at work in you. (James 4:7)

Prayer: All to You God I surrender every area of my life; my marriage, children, family, education, ministry career, business, projects, finances (list other areas). I resist the desires of the flesh and the schemes of the devil and put on the new life in Christ Jesus by the enabling grace of the Holy Spirit. My body is a house of prayer in Jesus' name. AMEN!
