DEVOTION ~ THE PLACE OF PEACE
Theme: The Place of Peace
Text: Exodus 18:19-23
19 Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God. 20 And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do. 21 Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 22 And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you. 23 If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace.”
In yesterday's devotion, we looked at how Moses overburdened himself with work such that Jethro saw it as not good to both Moses and the people. We are continuing today on the theme, "The place of peace". Life is full of struggle, each individual wishes to easy his/her burden and come to a place of peace. The place of peace can only be attained in the Lord. The Lord will strategically position you and equip you with the right companions to make your work less burdensome. This was what God did by bringing Jethro to the place where Moses was.
Jethro adviced Moses to concern himself with the things of the Lord and any other matter that is above the people he would delegate to judge the people. The criteria spelt out to qualify an individual to be delegated is key to the success of the work. The qualifications given were able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. Delegation should come with ability, fear God (having divine wisdom, knowledgeable and full of understanding), truthful and does not intend to be corrupt or avail to corruption.
Dear beloved in the Lord, as a leader, you need to look out for your Jethro by the help of the Holy Spirit. Do not task your subordinates above their capabilities, for it won't give you a profitable result. Just as duties were assigned in thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens, do well to also apportion responsibilities wisely. Do not just employ anyone, let them have the right qualifications and attitude to meet the job. Keep in mind, God uses people to command His Word; If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace. Your place of peace is just a Holy Spirit led step away, call on God now.
Prayer: Abba! Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, it is written, You open Your hands and satisfy every creature its desires. I pray my desires in marriage, career, business, ministry, education, family, community and nation be met by sending forth a Jethro in every area of my life and in all that I do. Let Your Hand give healing and deliverance in Jesus' name. AMEN!
Amen!
