DEVOTION ~ THE SEED

Theme: The Seed

Text: Genesis 3:14-16

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” 16 To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

In today's devotion we would be looking at the punishment God meted on the serpent, and the woman dubbed "The Seed". The curse on the serpent exceeds all other creatures as it crawls on its belly irrespective of the environment it finds itself. This curse can be characterized as emptiness, loneliness, desolation, unprofitable, amongst other unpleasant circumstances. If you possess the serpentine spirit of deceiving and misleading others, you will also suffer this type of curse where nothing profitable can come out of you, many will avoid your company and you will experience unpleasant circumstances wherever you find yourself.

God did not measure the curse to the nature of the serpent but also put an enmity between its seed and that of the woman's Seed. This Seed of the woman is Jesus Christ and He has crushed the head of the accuser of the brethren. Jesus crushed deceit that ruled or dominated amongst humanity and established truth. For the truth to prevail, He pleaded with the Father to send the Spirit of Truth (the Holy Spirit) to indwell the believer. By virtue of this victory, we are able to triumph darkness and its activities no matter how turbulent it comes our way.

We have often seen the pain of childbirth but it only for a while then relief comes. This is to tell us God is merciful unto us. God has also made provision for the seed of Abraham to be given help. As a seed of Abraham in Christ Jesus, always call on God in every challenge you find yourself and God will send forth help (Hebrews 2:16-18). Your conception and child birth can be a natural pregnancy, it can also mean a project, education, marriage, finances, business, etc. Do not give up when it becomes tough, rather press on for the pain is but for a while and your joy shall be birth.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for not turning me back because of my disobedience but You've welcomed me in through Christ Jesus. It is written, You do not give help to angels but You give help to the Seeds of Abraham, by virtue of being in Christ, I'm qualified as a seed of Abraham. I call unto You to send help to every area of my life and grant me victory in all that I do. This I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN!
