DEVOTION ~ TO GAIN
Theme: To Gain
Text: 1 Timothy 6:6-10
6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
To every human being, life begins with birth and ends in death. The entry and exit of life is characterized with nakedness; born empty and buried empty because at the point of death, nothing was carried away. However, the life lived between the entry and exit comes with gain. A gain can mean to obtain or secure something, to reach or arrive at something, and/or an increase in wealth or resources. In either ways, the measure is godliness and contentment of the individual.
God provides for us in diverse ways and His provision is intended to bring satisfaction. The godly appreciates the provision and is content, knowing God will always provide his/her daily need. Once contentment sets in, the godly can say, "I've obtained much from God, I've reached my moment of satisfaction, and the Lord has increased my wealth without sorrows". That is godly gain. However, when the lust of the flesh entices an individual, he/she yearns for more than he/she needs leading him/her into all forms of ungodly behaviors to achieve more. Such a soul is ungodly and lacks the spirit of contentment. Money in itself is not evil, but the greed and love for money sprout evil in man. Dear beloved in the Lord, in which way are you treading on; the godly path or ungodly path? If you fail to appreciate what God has done for you and how far He has brought you, then you're walking the path of ungodliness. Godliness and contentment is great gain in life.
Prayer: Dear God, I can't thank You enough for all You have done for me. I honour Your Holy name laying my heart, will and desires before Your Throne. Guide me by the enabling grace of the Holy Spirit to live a godly life and to be content with all You have blessed me with. I declare in the name of Jesus Christ, I shall attain godly gains in all that I do. AMEN!
Amen!
