DEVOTION ~ WHY DO YOU ALONE SIT?

Theme: Why Do You Alone Sit?
Text: Exodus 18:13-18

13 And so it was, on the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people; and the people stood before Moses from morning until evening. 14 So when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said, “What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?” 15 And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God. 16 When they have a difficulty, they come to me, and I judge between one and another; and I make known the statutes of God and His laws.” 17 So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good. 18 Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.

In a fast growing world of high blood pressure, this can be related to the rate of stress many suffer with their jobs, family and other responsibilities. Most people do do not know how to manage their responsibilities so they often overburden themselves. These individuals are not different from Moses before Jethro's intervention. Moses always work himself out because, he was inquiring of the Lord for the people, judge their issues and teach them God's Word.

Dear beloved in the Lord, do you sit alone? Do you think you are the only one person to make rightful decisions in your family, marriage, friendship, community and other areas of your life? Then you are sitting alone despite having a lot of company. In standing alone, you are causing harm to yourself and those who are dependent on you. What Jethro witnessed between Moses and the people was pure suffering. That's why he was quick to ask his son-in-law;  “What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?” Pray and ask God to open your eyes to areas of your life that you are standing alone.

Prayer: Father, forgive me for the moments I've failed to seek Your face concerning the issues of my life. Have mercy upon me and hear my cry. It is written, You open Your hands and satisfy every creature its desires, Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, open Your hands and satisfy me with divine helpers in all that I do and in every area of my life. Bring a Jethro my way to help ease my burdens. AMEN!
