DEVOTION ~ DEBTORS TO THE SPIRIT

Theme: Debtors to the Spirit
Text: Romans 8:12-14

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

In yesterday's devotion, we learned that the Spirit of Christ dwells in us and by His Spirit we will be raised to life on the resurrection or raptured when the Lord appears. By this mercy and love of God, we are no longer indebted to sin or the flesh but debtors to the Spirit of Christ. We can no longer live in the flesh for it has no power to give life neither do we owe it for Christ has paid our debts in full through His death. Living in the flesh put one to death for the wages of sin (living according to the flesh) is death. This death is both spiritual and physical.

However, there's hope unto us who walk according to the Spirit: we don't die, but sleep (the physical death) until the Lord comes - we are relieved of our pains on this earth. We attain a spiritual life by putting to death the flesh and its desires through the spiritual life in us. To put the flesh to death is to reject its luring lust with divine resistance. Standing steadfast in obedience to the command of the Lord by the leading of the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit drives our will and thoughts in all we do, we have divine connection unto the priestly family as sons and daughters of God. We are sons and daughters of God, let us be led by the Spirit in all we do.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, glory and honour be to Your name for paying all my sinful debts in full. I owe my life to You and submit to Your will in all that I do. Spirit of the Living God lead me where my trust is without borders and let me walk upon the troubled waters of life in all confidence in Jesus' name. AMEN!
