DEVOTION ~ THE FIRSTBORN

Theme: The Firstborn
Text: Hebrews 1:5-7

5 For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son”? 6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” 7 And of the angels He says: “Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire.”

Blessed be the name of the Almighty God for another favored morning. Let's quickly recap what we learnt yesterday; we studied that, Christ has an excellent name above all other names in the heaven, earth and the sea. Today, we look at another identity of Christ as the firstborn of the Father. There has been a compare and contrast between Jesus and the angels to clearly bring us to a realization that, Jesus is greater than all the angels. The angels have been subjected to Him.

Having existed from the beginning, Jesus has been the Spoken Word of God. He only manifested in the flesh after He was born of the Blessed Virgin Mary through the overshadowing grace of the Holy Spirit. At His birth, angels proclaimed it to the shepherds and worshipped Him. During His baptism at the Jordan, the heavens opened and declared His sonship. Likewise the transfiguration also echoed His supremacy to the disciples present. (John 1:1-5; Luke 1:26-38; 2:8-14)

He is addressed the firstborn in relation to the grace of resurrection on the third day. The first of the human nature to attain the resurrection life which we will also partake of in the near future. Even the devil knew, He has angels charged over Him and so, in tempting Him, the devil asked He jumped from the pinnacle of the temple as angels operate around Him least He dash His foot to a stone. Dear beloved in the Lord, God only send help to the seeds of Abraham not angels so being a coheir to Christ let your voice rise to God at all times. (Matthew 4:5-7)

Prayer: Ancient of days glory be to Your name for the grace of the firstborn my Saviour Jesus. I receive strength as a child of God to do Your will and to please God in the name of Jesus Christ have I prayed. AMEN!
