DEVOTION ~ THE SPIRIT OF ADOPTION

Theme: The Spirit of Adoption
Text: Romans 8:15-17

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

Accepting Jesus and confessing Him as Lord is a great transformation from being a slave to becoming a heir through the Spirit of adoption. A seal of belonging is set on us and the Holy Spirit is a witness to this. Dear beloved in the Lord, Christ knew this grace of adoption will manifest in anyone who believes, and so in teaching the disciples to pray, He began with "Our Father".

We are children of the Most High God, therefore, when we come before His presence we ought to address Him, lovely Father (Abba! Father). Whatever be our need in life, we must present it to our Father without fear. For the Father we have owns the universe and everything in it. We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a peculiar people in the Kingdom of God. A prince or princess feels at easy before the king so must we be when we come before our Father.

The first born Son (Jesus Christ) endured the suffering of this earth (the humiliations, mockery, false accusations, beatings, denial, betrayal, death and all the ugly things you can think of) yet, He did no wrong. We must emulate Him if we also desire to be crown in glory like Him. Pain comes before the crown so let's live as heirs that will soon be enthroned on condition that, we have lived well in conduct and in the affairs of the Kingdom.

Prayer: Abba! Father, I thank You for the grace of adoption. I present myself before You as a vessel in the advancement of the Kingdom works. Strengthen me by the Holy Spirit to live to please You in all that I do in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
