DEVOTION ~ STRICKEN FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS
Theme: Stricken for Our Transgressions
Text: Isaiah 53:7&8
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
This prophecy of Isaiah manifested when the Lord was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane to His death on the cross. He who has done no evil was betrayed by His own and was unlawfully arrested. In all His affliction, He open not His mouth to defend Himself or to curse His oppressors. One reason why Christ never uttered a word was to allow the will of God to prevail. (Matthew 26:63; 27:12-14; Mark 14:61; 15:5; Luke 23:9 & John 19:8).
He was tried before Pilate and Herod where false accusations were levied against Him. Though Pilate sought a way to free Him yet, the crowd was enticed by the elders to request Barabbas be released and Jesus crucified. Jesus died young without a child (who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living). Yet, He has countless number of children (for as many as recieved Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God- John 1:12). He was stricken for our transgressions that we may attain salvation. (Matthew 27:11-26; Luke 23:1-25)
Prayer: Abba! Father in the name of Jesus Christ, let the Blood of my Saviour wash me clean and let me be filled with the Holy Spirit so that I may hearken to Your voice. AMEN!
Amen
