DEVOTION ~ WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

Theme: What Do You Have?
Text: 2 Kings 4:1&2

4 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” 2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

Life does present the unexpected to us, but it's outcome depends on how we handle the situation. This widow is faced with a challenge of her late husband's indebtedness. The creditor intends to take her two sons in place of the debt even though he is in the known his direct debtor is dead. What a wicked world, the innocent suffers the guilt of another. The dead man feared God but the devil wants to put shame to his memory by taking his two sons into slavery. God blesses the home of the just so we need to look up to Him.

Dear beloved in the Lord, the sure place to carry your burden to is God. The widow presented her case to the prophet Elisha. God works in us by using the very things He has blessed us with; Elisha asked the widow, what do you have in the house? She responded, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” This is similar to the wedding at Cana of Galilee when the wine run out at the feast. Ordinary water was used to save the day so did Elisha requested for what is left in the house to rescue the widow and her sons. God is asking you what you have in your hands and house for He will used that very thing to do the unimaginable in your life.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for always coming through for me at all times. Help me to appreciate the things You have blessed me with. I pray You perform Your glory with them in my life in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
