DEVOTION ~ THE CHILD
Theme: The Child
Text: 2 Kings 4:17-20
17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her. 18 And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers. 19 And he said to his father, “My head, my head!” So he said to a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
In yesterday's devotion we looked at the prophet's reward where Elisha prophesied to the Shunammite woman she will have a son about a year time. At the appointed time she did conceive and bore a son. The Lord's Word comes to pass in our lives at His appointed time and not at our own willful time. The child grew but not in good health. What is it that God has blessed you with but you're unable to nurture it into greatness? The Shunammite woman's child could be your marriage, career, business, ministry, education, leadership roles amongst others in your life.
The child developed aheadache on the field where he was supposed to learn his father's trade in the season of abundance (harvest). There are times the harvest does not look favorable to you at all. Even those to support the advancement could also get discouraged and disassociate from you; “Carry him to his mother.” But dear beloved in the Lord, do not give up, carry that child (your marriage, career, business, ministry, education, leadership roles, etc) on your knees (kneel in prayer with your child). The child sat on her knees till noon, and then died; You don't need to wail to draw people's attention to your predicament go on your knees in prayer.
Prayer: Father thank You for the gifts (ministry, marriage, children, career, business, leadership, etc) You have blessed me with. I pray the Hand of the Holy Spirit be stretched on all You have given me that light will continually shine upon them that when evil attacks Your saving grace will empower me to stand faithful in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
Amen
