DEVOTION ~ HIDDEN
Theme: Hidden
Text: 2 Kings 4:24-28
24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, “Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” 25 And so she departed, and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel. So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, the Shunammite woman! 26 Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’ ” And she answered, “It is well.” 27 Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, “Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me, and has not told me.” 28 So she said, “Did I ask a son of my lord? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?”
In yesterday's devotion the Shunammite woman lost her son yet she kept it a secret on the premise of it is well. Having been granted her request by her husband, she saddle a donkey and instructed her servant not to slacken the pace unless she asked him to do so. She doesn't want to be delayed or distracted on her mission. We also ought to focus in life so as not to be slacken. Despite what was happening in her house wasn't favorable, yet God has hidden it from the prophet Elisha. Teaching us that it's not by the power of the prophet that he works but by God’s power. He sent word by Gehazi to find out if all is well with her and her household. She responded it is well.
The woman has resolved to have no business with anyone except the prophet Elisha. Gehazi ignorant of her pain tried to withdraw her from having physical contact with Elisha but the prophet perceived her soul is in deep distress however, the Lord has hidden it from him, and has not told him. The woman then poured her heart out in reference to what she said the time the prophet prophesied she will have a son; did I not say, do not give me false hope? Prayer: Dear God help me to understand it is not all things I am permitted to know. Help me to accept and appreciate what's revealed to me and even much more to those hidden according to Your perfect will. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
