DEVOTION ~ THE PROPHET'S REWARD

Theme: The Prophet's Reward
Text: 2 Kings 4:14-16

14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.” 15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”

In our previous study we saw how both the Shunammite woman and the prophet Elisha were concerned for each other. The prophet Elisha continued to contemplate what can be done for her. Gehazi a disciple of the prophet noticed a great need which he believes is the best thing to do for her; Her husband is old and she has no son. She was called and she stood in the doorway, she had no physical contact with the prophet but heard his voice.

The prophecy needs to be spoken not a touch as some false prophets are practicing in our days taking advantage of vulnerable women in need of a child. The reward for her hospitality is a son which she will have in about a year time. Though she needs a son, she does not want to be given false hope. So she quickly said, "Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant". We need to learn to be frank just as she was with the prophet.

Prayer: Dear Lord it is written, "He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward." Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray my reward shall not be denied or contended, and I shall never be given false hope. AMEN!
