DEVOTION ~ THE UPPER ROOM
Theme: The Upper Room
Text: 2 Kings 4:10&11
10 Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.” 11 And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there.
In yesterday's devotion we looked at the notable Shunammite woman who has been hospitable to the prophet Elisha. In today's devotion we will look at how she has extended the help of feeding the prophet Elisha to providing him with shelter. She humbly requested of her husband to provide an upper room for the prophet's convenience. All that will be required to ease the pressure on the prophet has been made available in the upper room; a bed to sleep on and a study area for him to read and meditate upon God's Word.
Dear beloved in the Lord, let us learn from the provision of the upper room how to effectively assist others without them asking. The Shunammite woman identified the need of the prophet without him asking. The blessings she attracted for doing this will be what we would looked at in the days ahead. God's reward awaits us if we keep doing good to others. What is your upper room offer? Your upper room could be comforting words, financial assistance, taking care of the aged or the sick, making provisions for the orphanage, widows or the poor amongst others. Ask God to help you build your upper room.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the insight from the Shunammite woman. Help me to identify the needs of others and to help them well as it will please You. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
