DEVOTION ~ IS THIS NOT JOSEPH'S SON?

Theme: Is this Not Joseph's Son? 
Text: Luke 4:20-22

20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”



Don't be taken aback when people try to underrate you for doing something extraordinary. For our Saviour suffered same in the synagogue among His very own people. Having told them the scripture He read to them from the book of Isaiah has been fulfilled, they were astonished. In their amazement and in doubt, they want to compare their status to that of the Lord. So they were quick to ask if that's not Joseph's son?

Dear beloved in the Lord, people who are unable to do the things we do, often try to find excuses for themselves by underrating us. They just want to ease their own tension by making us look like what we've done is not worth doing. Let us not be discouraged by their insecurities rather let us rise above the challenge and attain the crown of glory.


Prayer: Merciful Father thank You for the grace in Christ Jesus that we may not go astray. Come Holy Spirit and teach us to be like Christ in all that we do. Empower us not to be discouraged by the words of other but rather focus on You. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Do you feel you're forgotten, rejected or insecure? Dear beloved in the Lord, you're not forgotten, for God has engraved your name in His palms. Isaiah 49:16 See, "I have engraved you on the Palms of My Hands: Your walls are ever before Me". If God has engraved your name in His palms, it means He always sees or watches over you. Rise up and shake the fear and doubts off.  Declare, "I am not forgotten or alone. The LORD has engraved me in His Palms. Therefore, His eyes are fixed on me, and He protects me from the wicked. I decree all that I have is secured in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
