DEVOTION ~ JESUS THE ANOINTED ONE

Theme: Jesus the Anointed One
Text: Luke 4:17b-19

And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

In yesterday's devotion we saw how Jesus entered the synagogue and was handed a the book of Isaiah to read. Today's devotion will give us details of what He read. Jesus opened to the prophecy of the prophet Isaiah concerning Him. We noticed just after the baptism of Jesus that, He was filled with the Spirit of God and was led into the wilderness to fast for 40 days and night. Later the devil came to test Him but He overcame the deceitful cunning words of the devil.

Jesus indeed is the Anointed One for the few years of His earthly ministry, we saw all that Isaiah has written about Him manifested accordingly. He preached the gospel to the poor; He once made known to the religious leaders while in the company of tax collectors that the sick seeks the physician not the healthy. He taught the tax collectors, harlots, outcasts amongst others. All these individuals have been heartbroken by their unability to fulfill the laws of the religious leaders but Christ came to heal them all. The demon possessed were set free by the command of Jesus Christ. The blind received their sight, and to those who are oppressed, He gave them liberty. It is only by the anointing of God that one can perform all that Jesus did few years in ministry, barely three years. In as much as He made things favorable to the people He was surrounded by, He always remind them of the acceptable year of the Lord. The Anointed One will return as Judge, how prepared are you for His coming?

Prayer: Thank You Abba! Father for sending the Anointed One to walk this earth. Thank You for the mighty works of Jesus. Lord, may these mighty acts be evident in my life, family, ministry, community, nation and the world that all may be healed, set free, receive sight, and draw more closer to You each day of our lives. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
