DEVOTION ~ MISCHIEVOUS

Theme: Mischievous
Text: Luke 4:9-12

9 Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you,’ 11 and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” 12 And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

In his deceitful nature, Satan tried to take pride in earthly possession and to sway people to worship him as he tried to with Jesus but as we looked at yesterday, he was rebuked. In today's devotion we will look at the mischievous nature of the devil. When he failed to get Jesus to worship him, he set Him on the pinnacle of the temple and dare to challenge His Sonship asking Him to throw Himself down. In his mischievousness he tried to make a biblical reference as Jesus has always responded to his cunning words with scripture.

The scripture the devil quoted is Psalm 91:11&12, though he quoted it rightly, he misapplied it. Dear beloved in the Lord, in time of trouble, God will charge his angels over us but not when we deliberately want to put the Lord to a test if He is capable of delivering us. Jesus gave the devil a response that exposes the mischievous nature of the devil by quoting from Deuteronomy 6:16; 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God'. We ought to learn from the Lord by this response that there are agents to darkness that are at work to twist the Word of God so, we must be ready to let the Word abide in our hearts that we can confidently serve the Lord faithfully.

Prayer: Thank You God for exposing the whitty devise of the devil to us. Teach us by the workings of the Holy Spirit to be alert of the schemes of the accuser and to be deligent students of the Word of God all the days of our lives. In the name of Jesus Christ have we prayed. AMEN!
