DEVOTION ~ SORROW OF HEART
Theme: Sorrow of Heart
Text: Nehemiah 2:1&2b
2 And it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, that I took the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had never been sad in his presence before. 2 Therefore the king said to me, “Why is your face sad since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart.”
Nehemiah had heard about how the wall of Jerusalem has been ruined. He mourned, fasted and prayed to the Lord God Almighty to look upon His people with mercy in the first chapter. It took a whole season before the King noticed his countenance while serving and asked him, “Why is your face sad since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart.”
We need to learn to serve faithfully and diligently so that when we come to need, our superiors, colleagues, and those around us can be concerned about our plight. We must also learn from Nehemiah to not hasten anything in life but trust God in all things. We may not need to pour out our pain but the Holy Spirit Himself will intervene to turn the situation to our good.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for instructing us with the deeds of the faithful men of old. I pray for zeal like Nehemiah to serve faithfully in every capacity I serve to Your glory I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
