DEVOTION ~ WHAT DO YOU REQUEST?

Theme: What Do You Request?
Text: Nehemiah 2:4&5

Then the king said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favour in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.”

In yesterday's devotion, we learned to present our case well from Nehemiah's approach. We will continue to look at his approach to seeking the king's help. When asked what his request was, Nehemiah did two things which we will look at below.

¶ He prayed to God before answering the king. We need not open our mouths without first seeking God's approval. He prayed in his heart that God may intervene. We also ought to pray whenever we have a request to be met. Prayer brings to life what seems dead or not fruitful.

¶ The second thing he did was to seek the king's approval willfully not under compulsion. He puts it this way; “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favour in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.” Don't just look at what you want but what the approving party also want or is willing to do as well.

¶ Nehemiah's request is aimed at rebuilding the wall of the city of God. The city of God around us today includes marriages, families, churches, communities, and even our workplaces. How concerned are we in rebuilding the broken walls of these areas of our lives? We need to lay this request to heart and ask the Lord to help us build the broken walls in our lives.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for using Nehemiah to teach us to be concerned about the things You have entrusted to our care. Lay it in our hearts to rebuild the broken walls of our marriages, nurturing of our children, family, church, workplace, community and relationships with our friends and neighbours in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

  1. Nehemiah was a servant and it portrays in his doing even before God. With his humility as servant, the king granted his request so is God.

May God bless you for the good work you are doing.
