Some Characteristics of Jonah;
√ His intent to run away from God's presence revealed that none can run away from God
√ He was fast asleep while the ship he boarded to Tarshish was battling with the tides
√ He saved the lives of others by asking them to cast him into the sea when the lots cast fell on him

√ He prayed to God in the belly of the great fish and God answered him. This teaches us God listens to prayers anywhere it is offered sincerely
√ God commanded the fish to vomit him out on dry ground and it came to pass as such
√ He entered Nineveh and proclaim all that the Lord commanded him to tell the people in three days
√ It hurt him God did not punish the people of Nineveh but God used a plant to teach him how loving He is toward the human race
√ Jonah revealed the true nature of God as gracious, merciful, slow to anger, abundant in loving kindness, and He (God) relent of doing harm
√ In the dispensation of Jesus Christ, when the people demanded signs He categorically stated the sign of Jonah in the fish's belly for three days shall be what they will experience; Three days in the grave and resurrection of Christ - For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation.
