DEVOTION ~ INSEPARABLE EXCEPT FOR DEATH
Theme: Inseparable Except for Death
Text: Ruth 1:16&17
16 But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.”
In yesterday's devotion, we learned Naomi encouraged Ruth to also return to her people and gods as Orpah. The text for consideration is her response to her mother-in-law. Ruth's response is an indication of the agape love we are admonished to show to our fellow brothers and sisters. She is ever ready to go the length and breadth of life with Naomi until death does them part: She was ready to follow, lodge, be family with Naomi, and serve her God. Real love is often hard, inconvenient, and costly; but true happiness only comes to those who care about others at some cost to themselves.
Togetherness is not just by mouth, it must be shown emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and physically. Ruth knew for sure, she had no control over death but for the rest of what she can control, she was willing to do. She said only death can part her from Naomi and yet she is willing to be buried where Naomi will be buried. Ruth's love for Naomi is unselfish and self-giving that is the kind of love expected of us as Christians. May the Lord grant us insight to love others as Christ loves us.
PRAYER: Father in heaven, grant me a heart that is unselfish and self-giving that I may serve You and all that I come to contact with faithfully. Help me to build good and lasting relationships in my family, workplace, church, community, nation, and the world at large in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
