DEVOTION ~ THE FATHER REVEALED

 Theme: The Father Revealed

Text: John 14:7-9

7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” 8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Getting to know people goes beyond just having the ability to mention their full names at ease. We could stay with people for several years without getting to know them because we have not built a good relationship with them. It is sometimes embarrassing for siblings to not even know where their elderly or younger ones stay, work, or even who (the family) they are married to. We are in a world where we know people by the details on their social handles than who they really are. In today's text, Philip a disciple of Jesus was in a fixed as to who the Father is. Jesus' statement, “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him” created a puzzle in Philip's mind, and was quick to ask Him; “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

Jesus revealed the Father with the response; "He who has seen Me has seen the Father". The Father is revealed in Christ and not any other thing. If we desire to know God the Father, then we need to establish a good relationship with Christ. Not what people say He is but how we have experienced Him in our own relationship with Him and what the Word of God says He is. Just like how children pick up some traits of their parents (resemblance- facial/stature, cognitive, attitude, etc...) Jesus also carries on the nature of God and so if we see Him then we have seen the Father (if we encounter Jesus we have encountered God the Father).

PRAYER: In the Name of God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, blessed be Your Name o Lord God Almighty who has granted us the grace to know You through Christ. Guide us to establish good relations with You and other believers in the Lord so that we may understand we are a family in Christ. This we pray in the Name of Christ Jesus. AMEN!
