DEVOTION ~ THE SPIRITUAL COVERING
Theme: The Spiritual Covering
Text: Numbers 4:4-6
4 “This is the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of meeting, relating to the most holy things: 5 When the camp prepares to journey, Aaron and his sons shall come, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of the Testimony with it. 6 Then they shall put on it a covering of badger skins, and spread over that a cloth entirely of blue; and they shall insert its poles.
In yesterday's devotion, we learned God spoke to Moses and Aaron and asked them to take a census of the Kohathites. Today's text is giving a guide to what the Kohathites will be doing in assisting the Levitical priests in their service to the Lord. The journey of the Israelites has not been by their own directives but rather by what the Lord pleases. The ark of the Testimony is often carried along in this journey in a revered manner not exposed to the ordinary eye. Aaron and his sons are to take down the covering veil and cover the ark of the Testimony with it.
Dear beloved in the Lord, in the House of God (whether you relate it to a physical building or your body) we need to cover it well; we ought to avoid exposing the sacred things of the Lord or our body in an ordinary way (ungodly manner). In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members so that all the members care for each other. if one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad (1 Corinthians 12:22-26).
PRAYER: Father in heaven, You have a purpose for covering our first fathers when they sinned and could not cover themselves well. Help us to present our bodies as living sacrifices pleasing and acceptable in Your eyes. Open our eyes to understand the significance of our spiritual covering that we may not uncover ourselves. This is our prayer in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
Amen. May the Lord help us
