DEVOTION ~ THE SPIRITUAL SERVICE II
Theme: The Spiritual Service II
Text: Numbers 4:11-15
11 “Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of badger skins; and they shall insert its poles. 12 Then they shall take all the utensils of service with which they minister in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of badger skins, and put them on a carrying beam. 13 Also they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it. 14 They shall put on it all its implements with which they minister there—the firepans, the forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar—and they shall spread on it a covering of badger skins, and insert its poles. 15 And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them; but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. “These are the things in the tabernacle of meeting which the sons of Kohath are to carry.
In yesterday's devotion, we began learning about the spiritual service of the Levitical priests. Today we will continue with it and delve into essential services for the Lord. As we established in the previous devotion, there is no limitation in serving God in our dispensation as we have all been given the same mandate to spread the Gospel. Likewise, have we established we are royals in the Lord therefore as we present ourselves to serve, we are adorned with the royal priesthood glory (Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of badger skins... Then they shall take all the utensils of service with which they minister in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of badger skins, and put them on a carrying beam).
Altars were relevant in the past so in our dispensation. However, the altar of the Christian is Jesus for He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. The implements on our altar should be prayer, the study of the Word, and cheerful service to both God and man (offering, giving, caring for the aged, orphans, widows, loving one another, etc). We need to understand, the service is not about us nor a display of our strength but to give honour to God. If we intend to display our carnal will then we shall not complete the service well (when the camp is set to go, then the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them; but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die). Never attempt to usurp God's glory it can cost you your life. Humility, diligence, and zeal are required for this spiritual service coupled with prayer and fasting.
PRAYER: Dear God, You are pleased with those who are obedient to Your instruction and You fulfill every promise of Yours concerning their lives and punish those that fail to. Help me to serve in obedience, humility, diligence, and with divine zeal in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
