DEVOTION ~ THE SPIRITUAL SERVICE VII
Theme: The Spiritual Service VII
Text: Numbers 4:34-41
34 And Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites by their families and by their fathers’ house, 35 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the tabernacle of meeting; 36 and those who were numbered by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty. 37 These were the ones who were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all who might serve in the tabernacle of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the Lord by the hand of Moses. 38 And those who were numbered of the sons of Gershon, by their families and by their fathers’ house, 39 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the tabernacle of meeting— 40 those who were numbered by their families, by their fathers’ house, were two thousand six hundred and thirty. 41 These are the ones who were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, of all who might serve in the tabernacle of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the Lord.
Census is an important thing in every sphere of life; family, nation, workplace, and even in the house of God. The households of the Levites mentioned in this chapter are the Kohathites, Gershonites, and Merarites. The text for today considers the Kohathites and the Gershonites with the result of their census being two thousand seven hundred and fifty and two thousand six hundred and thirty respectively.
Every department within the church needs to have a census carried out to ensure the workload does not overburden a few people. It will also aid in building disciples in places that are lacking. Dear beloved in the Lord, taking a census of congregants also helps to know those who are growing spiritually and those that are not. Then the right approach can be adopted to assist such individuals. If the children's ministry, youth ministry, evangelism team, visitation ministry, musical team, or any other ministry or group is not functioning well, it could be identified and resolved promptly. The church must be run as the Lord's business and we are each accountable to Him.
PRAYER: Lord God Almighty, You are the Head of the church and Your will is what sustains the church. Guide us to adhere to Your directives and to avail to serve in Your Vineyard in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
