DEVOTION ~ THE SPIRITUAL SERVICE VIII
Theme: The Spiritual Service
Text: Numbers 4:42-48
42 Those of the families of the sons of Merari who were numbered, by their families, by their fathers’ house, 43 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the tabernacle of meeting— 44 those who were numbered by their families were three thousand two hundred. 45 These are the ones who were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses. 46 All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of Israel numbered, by their families and by their fathers’ houses, 47 from thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, everyone who came to do the work of service and the work of bearing burdens in the tabernacle of meeting— 48 those who were numbered were eight thousand five hundred and eighty.
Are you tempted sometimes to feel or say you are too old for a task in the house of God? The census considered even those fifty years of age which implies age must not limit you in serving in the house of God. We must cultivate the habit of encouraging both the young and the old to avail to serve in the house of God. Children should be taught to give helping hands during services so as to inculcate in them the spirit of voluntary service rather than looking forward to a gain in working in the house of God and in the community. Take a census of all those in your household who are serving in the house of God as against those who are not serving. What conclusion can you draw about your household; zealous for God or not? Begin to ask God to stir up the spirit of service in your family so that you may all willfully serve in God's presence.
PRAYER: Dear God, we come before You and ask in the Name of Jesus Christ may anything that hinders us (shyness, laziness, procrastination, etc...) from willfully serving in Your Vineyard be removed. Come Holy Spirit and take total control over our lives. Thank You, Lord! AMEN!
