THE SPIRITUAL SERVICE IV

 Theme: The Spiritual Service IV

Text: Numbers 4:17-20

17 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: 18 “Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites; 19 but do this in regard to them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each of them to his service and his task. 20 But they shall not go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, lest they die.”

In previous devotions, we have learned about the duties assigned to the Levites by households. However, the line of duty of the Kohathites was critical and demanded diligence lest they die. God being a loving Father and very concerned about the well-being of the Kohathites gave a direction to protect them. In our line of duty, we should know the limits to go and not disregard the commands of the Lord.

Dear beloved in the Lord, we have all been given diverse gifts and talents to work with but we must not under any circumstance attempt to force to imitate the gifts of others. The Kohathites were tasked to carry the ark of the testimony with all its elements but they must not touch them lest they die. Whatever the Lord has not entrusted to you to do, never presume you can do it for the result will be unpleasant. If you do not have the gift of prophecy do not force it. Likewise never attempt to be what you are not in the house of God. Inquire of the Lord what you can do in His Vineyard and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to diligently carry out the task for God will greatly reward you.

PRAYER: Dear God, open the eyes of my understanding to know what to do so I do not overstep my boundaries while serving You. Come Holy Spirit and lead the Church in truth as we serve devoid of pride and cynical attitudes to Your glory in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
