CHARACTER STUDY ~ JETHRO
Jethro means his excellency or posterity. He was the father-in-law of Moses the servant of God. He was an excellent observer and gave counsel wisely to his son-in-law Moses. He was a Medianite blessed with seven daughters.
Some Characteristics of Jethro:
He was a good father to his daughters. He trained his daughters and they were great shepherds. His training made his daughters more dutiful. Every child of God whether male or female must be trained to be responsible.
He was a priest of Median. He submitted to the Lord by serving as a priest and his service may in a way guide Moses before he was called to rescue the Israelites. Thanks to Christ we have all been called into the royal priesthood so we must serve in every capacity that we can in the Lord's Vineyard.
While with Moses and saw how burdensome his duties were and gave him good advice to divide his schedules and delegate people to do the minor tasks. Moses obeyed him and the outcome was excellent. We must give good counsel at all times.
