CHARACTER STUDY ~ PHOEBE

The name Phoebe means "pure", "radiant", or "bright". Her name had a positive impact on her life for her service to God brought light to many. She was a part of the early church as a deacon in Cenchreae. She was mentioned in the letter of the Apostle Paul to the Romans. 

Some Characteristics of Phoebe:

√  She played a significant role in the church in Cenchreae. Though a woman she has been mentioned to have significantly helped the believers in Cenchreae which is encouraging every believer whether male or female, young or old to be zealous for the Kingdom of God.

√  She held a position in the church but was not a title holder (proud to be in the position) rather served in that capacity. We must serve than love the titles of the positions we occupy.

√  She was a benefactor to Apostle Paul. She also supported the growth of the ministry of Paul and others. We must learn to support the church in its development and to also assist the needy, orphans, and poor in our communities.  

√  She can also be said to be a traveler who intends to touch lives. Apostle Paul entreated the Romans to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of God's people and to give her any help she may need from them. 

√  Much has not been said of Phoebe but the little about her is a good example for us to emulate and radiate wherever we find ourselves so that we can bring light where there is darkness.

Apollos means "one who destroys or a destroyer". He was a New Testament figure who steadily grew to become a servant of Jesus through ministry. He was a staunch Jew.  Some Characteristics of Apollos: √ Apollos was endowed with great knowledge and was very outspoken. DEVOTION ~ JUDGING RIGHTEOUSLY

Theme: Judging Righteously Text: Genesis 38:26 26 So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again. Previous devotion taught us that Tamar sent the pledge Judah gave her to him to identify the owner. Upon receiving the items Judah acknowledged his wrong. Judah did not allow pride or ego to cloud his judgment but rather pointed to the role he played in leading Tamar to take such a drastic step to get pregnant. Dear beloved in the Lord, don't be quick to point people's wrong without considering yours. Let us learn from Judah to never push blame to others if we are guilty. Let us Pray: Almighty God, forgive me for employing the full rigour of the law on defaulters but failing to in my own case. Grant me sound judgment to act righteously. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
