DEVOTION ~ MAKING HOME WITH THE LORD
Theme: Making Home with the Lord
Text: John 14:22-24
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
In yesterday's devotion, we learned Christ can manifest in us if we have and keep His commandments. Today's text enlightens us on making a home with our Lord. Judas asked Jesus, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” The response to this question is what we shall delve into today. Emphasis is given again concerning having love for the Lord by keeping to His Word. The Word of God is written down for us in the Bible to be a standard for our existence. When we fail to heed the warnings and instructions given to us, then the love of God is not in us for we have not kept His Word. Whoever is against God cannot welcome Him to make a home with him/her. For it is written in Revelation 3:20 - Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
In keeping the Word of God, we are welcoming Him to abide with us. His dwelling with us is what Christ stated, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him". When the Lord makes home with us it implies He has become the Head of our households (our homes are under the management of God). In managing our homes, God delivers us from every attack of the wicked, and His rod and staff comfort us. Even if we walk through the valleys of the shadows of death, we will not fear any evil for the Lord is the strength of our lives (Psalm 23:4 & 27:1).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I invite You into my life and home. Please take absolute control and help me to love Your Word, and to meditate on Your Word day and night. Thank You for answering me in the Name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
