DEVOTION ~ THE MOUNTAIN PRAYER
Theme: The Mountain Prayer
Text: Matthew 14:22-24
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
Jesus Christ is a perfect example for all believers to emulate. He schedules His time to rise early with the Father and retire the day's activities with Father in prayer alone. He did away with any form of distractions by first sending His disciples away ~ His close allies were the initial focus. We need to take a break from our friends so we can focus: It can even be ministry friends whom you are doing the same line of work with. You need to excuse yourself and get empowered by the Holy Spirit to ensure the group flourishes. Corporate prayer is good but solitude prayer is effective in gaining strength.
Aside from friends, there are other associates whom we engage with casually. We are either strengthening them or trying to pull them up in the faith. These are the multitude Jesus sent away. We need to also energize ourselves before trying to give helping hands to such people. It is only the fellowship with the Holy Spirit that can we attain that vitality. Take a break from them too and climb up the mountain (your closet) and seek the face of God. Your mountain can be an open space in the woods, farm, backyard, closet, room, or any convenient place where you will not be distracted. Take time this week to have a mountain prayer.
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I need Your strength to manage my life so as to have fellowship with You alone. May I cultivate the habit of rising early with You and retiring to bed with You. This I ask in Your Holy Name. AMEN!
